Free Downloadable Anti-Virus Suite

I have yet to find ANYTHING that is more effective then these four programs!

AND THEY ARE FREE!

CCleaner

Malwarebytes

SuperAntiSpyware

Microsoft Security Essentials

(Make sure to get the free versions.... There is never a good reason to pay for virus protection)

The bulk of my business is virus removal.. I have installed these four programs on literally 100's and 100's of computers over the last 6+ years. If used proactively you should be able to remove most viruses, unless the infection is a RootKit type virus! If you get a RootKit and don't know what you are doing, most likely you will have to take it to a qualified shop like us!

I would suggest that you take your time installing these, by that I mean, READ each page of the installer. Remember these are free versions. They will want you to download a toolbar and or search engine so MAKE SURE TO UNCHECK THE BOXES (they are usually checked by default, so if you just click on through the installer you will get more than what you wanted!

Either "Click" or "Copy and Paste" the Direct Link above to Microsofts website into your

browser to download the full standalone installer for Microsoft Security Essentials.

For Windows XP - Avira Antivirus Free

avira_en_av___ws.exe (4.36 mb)

This is an excellent free Antivirus Program that you can use for Windows XP.

For those of you with Windows 8 and 8.1.... I personally would not waste my time and money installing an Antivirus Program, Windows 8 and 8.1 come with Microsoft Windows Defender preinstalled and will automatically turn on when you uninstall the trial version Antivirus that came preinstalled with your computer.

I would definately install CCleaner, SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes. These are the only programs that can detect Browser infections which almost every Free and Paid version Antivirus Program can't detect. Browser Infections are the most common infections of ADWARE, SPYWARE and Malicious Software (Viruses) most people get by downloading free software which is bundled with your download. Not paying attention to the installer is the #1 Reason you are getting infected.

Windows 8 and 8.1 (continued)

After downloading CCleaner, SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarbytes look for Windows Defender in your Control Panel and under settings make sure the check box is checked enabling the Real Time Protection aspect of the program.... For some reason Microsoft shut down Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 8 ... MSE offers Real Time Protection as well as a Hueristic Scanning Engine that you can set to run on a schedule... Windows Defender IS Microsoft Security Essentials with out the ability to run on a schecule... SO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! ? You will need to Check for an update and run a scan manually! YOU CAN DO IT! It is so simple, there should not be any reason why you would not just DO IT.... The same goes for SuperAntiSpyWare and Malwarebytes ... GET IN THE HABIT OF RUNNING SCANS ON A REGULAR BASIS AND YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF ALOT OF HEADACHE AND MONEY!

Disclaimer: There is not any one software program available that can detect and remove every infection... Sorry, I don't think there ever will be either... Pay Attention to what you are downloading, where you are browsing and which search engine you use! Remember when you are on a website... You are connected to another computer SOMEWHERE on this planet and depending on a number of factors you really have no idea what information is being uploaded and downloaded....
